The new manager for a Wetherspoon pub just weeks from opening has been announced, as new details of the watering hole have emerged.
The Captain Flinders pub will be opening near Euston station in the site of the the former SophistiCats lap dancing club on the corner of Eversholt Street and Doric Way.
After JD Wetherspoon spent £2.3 million to give the venue a new look, the pub will be opening on January 9, creating 55 new jobs.
The pub chain has announced that Samantha Pugh will be managing the site.
She said: “Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into The Captain Flinders.
“We are confident that the pub will be a great addition for those travelling in and out of Euston Station as well as local people.”
The Captain Flinders is named after the Royal Navy explorer who led the circumnavigation of Australia and whose remains were found by archaeologists working on the HS2 Euston redevelopment.
A spokesperson for JD Wetherspoon said the pub will be wheelchair accessible and have a specially adapted toilet for people with disabilities.
The carpet fitted throughout the pub draws its design inspiration from Euston station, with cable patterns, as well as hidden cat faces to celebrate Trim, Captain Flinders’ pet cat who accompanied him on his expeditions.
The interior colour scheme of the pub references the design of Euston’s Great Hall, with plaster pink tones against the blue of the ceiling. Lighting features and architectural detailing also recall elements of Euston’s Great Hall in 1960, before its demolition two years later.
Historical photos and details of local history, as well as artwork and images of local scenes and characters of the area, are also displayed in the pub.
There will also be ceramic tiled panels on the wall, which includes artwork based on the route the first train journeys took from Euston to Birmingham.
The Captain Flinders will be open from 6.30am until 12am fron Sunday to Thursday and from 6.30am until 1am on Friday and Saturday. Food will be served from opening until 11pm every day and children will be welcome inside the pub until 9pm each day.
