The date has been set to begin work to transform a former lap-dancing club into a Wetherspoon pub.

JD Wetherspoon is preparing to make the SophistiCats premises near Euston Station into one of its hundred pubs after being granted a licence by Camden Council last Thursday (August 17).

The pub chain has now said it will start development work on its newest pub on the corner of Eversholt Street and Doric Way on September 11.

According to a spokesperson for the chain, 60 new jobs will be created at the watering hole.

The hostelry will be called The Captain Flinders after the explorer credited with naming Australia, whose remains were rediscovered during excavations for the HS2 railway nearby.

Camden Council’s licensing committee last week approved a licence to open at 6.30am on Mondays and close at midnight on Mondays to Thursdays and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

The pub will open at 7.30am on Sundays and shut at 11.30pm.

Customers will be able to buy alcohol from 8am until 11.30pm on Mondays to Thursdays, until 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays and until 10.30pm on Sundays.

JD Wetherspoon chief executive John Hutson said: “We are looking forward to starting development work on the new pub.

“We are confident it will prove an asset to the area.”

At present there is no confirmed date for the pub’s opening.
