A café has regained the confidence of food hygiene inspectors after previous reports of a “widespread mice infestation”.

Roni’s Hampstead in Rosslyn Hill was given a 0/5 following a scathing food hygiene report on August 21, but assured the Ham&High last month that it had eradicated all signs of the rodents.

It seems the café has lived up to its promise, with the café now being awarded a 4/5 with a ‘good’ rating following a reinspection on Saturday (November 4)  by the environmental health team at Camden Council.

Addressing the new rating, Nicole Lanzman, of Roni’s, said: “We are delighted to reassure you that we had a recent hygiene inspection and are delighted with the outcome, as are the inspectors.

“We would like to reassure all our customers old and new that we have implemented long term changes and a huge refurbishment so look forward to welcoming you all at Roni’s with reassurance. The health and hygiene of our branches are our number one priority.”

One of the issues raised in the August visit was a “widespread mice infestation", inspectors said, with droppings found on the benches, surfaces of packaging and areas where food was stored.

The report read: “The chef was unaware of (the) existing problem. When questioned – chef didn’t indicate that he would notify manager if droppings were found (as it was clear) during the visit.”

Environmental health inspectors noted that the daily checks were “not sufficient” as no mice droppings were noted or actioned.

The report also stated that gaps and holes should be pest proofed, as there were “several access points”.

In October, the Ham&High were told that immediate action was taken as the café was voluntarily closed for ten days and a pest control company was brought in to “eradicate all signs of mice”.

On the Food Standards Agency website, Roni’s Hampstead is still scored a zero out of five. But this is likely to be updated soon with the new and improved score.
