Some of the restaurants and cafes in and around Camden have been in the area for decades – while others are only just starting out.
The borough is one of the top spots in London to open a new establishment, with its multitude of high streets proving popular with both Michelin-starred chefs and high street chains.
A slew of new spots to eat have opened in the area over the past three months, capitalising on the summer season.
Here we take a look at some of the new faces on Camden’s streets that could be perfect for lunch or dinner over the weekend.
It’s Bagels
The authentic New York-style bagel shop opened in Primrose Hill last month.
Ham and High recently reviewed the bakery in Regent’s Park Road, describing it as “a welcome slice of New York” in north London.
The diner was opened by Dan Martensen who found himself missing the taste of home when he moved to London.
It has a retro New York deli vibe, with 1970s style font, stainless steel counter, and posters of Spike Lee movies or the city's subway map on the walls.
Bagel fillings include a whitefish, chicken, or tunafish salad and a cooked-to-order fried egg and cheese, bacon egg and cheese or BLT.
Prices start at £4.50 rising to £13 for ‘The Works’, and American style filter coffee is served along with other coffees and juices.
It's Bagels is at 65 Regent's Park Road, NW1
GrassFed
This restaurant was opened by Michelin-star chef Paul Foster under a Camden railway arch in July.
Split over two floors at Hawley Wharf, GrassFed is a 50-cover restaurant specialising in high quality beef cuts - from "juicy steaks to hearty burgers" - grilled over coals in an open kitchen.
Ham and High visited last month, giving it a four star review and claiming “that if you like your steak practically mooing, this place is for you”.
GrassFed is at Arch S12 Water Lane, Hawley Wharf, NW1 8JY
Popeyes
The most recent addition to Kilburn High Road, Popeyes brings its famous chicken burgers to north London.
Founded in New Orleans in 1972, Popeyes is among a growing number of North American fast food chains aiming for rapid expansion in the UK.
The menu is based around chicken marinated for 12 hours in a signature blend of Louisiana herbs and spices, then breaded or battered.
Popeyes is at 122 Kilburn High Rd, Maida Vale, NW6 7HY
The Good Egg
Another very new opening, this restaurant in Stables Market combines British produce with dishes from Tel Aviv's street food stalls, classic Jewish delis, grand old cafes, and the bagel bakeries of New York.
The restaurant first opened a site in Stoke Newington Church Street in 2015 and quickly became a neighbourhood hotspot known for its delicious babka, pastries, brunches and bagels.
With both dine-in and take-away options The Good Egg will open from 10am to 10pm, with 70 covers in total and 30 seats on the outdoor terrace.
Offerings include shakshuka; baked eggs with preserved lemon yoghurt; babka French Toast with blackberry and honeycomb; and the arayes - mushroom and harissa stuffed corners of pita.
The Good Egg is at North Yard, Stables Market, Chalk Farm Road, NW1
Junkyard Golf Club
It's not strictly a food venue, but you can grab a bite at the crazy golf chain, which launched a new London centre at Camden Lock Place after debuting in the city in 2019 with their Shoreditch site.
A spokesperson for the club said in a press release that the venue in Camden is their largest yet and features “crashed planes, burnt-out cars, and a spine-chilling horror-inspired rave course nestled in the basement.”
Four “creatively mashed-up courses” are said to be the highlight, and golfers will reportedly get to choose from over 20 cocktails like “bubble gum sunset” and “Junkyard love club” served at their four bars.
There are also pizza twists and loaded nachos on the snack menu among other dishes.
Pizza Pilgrims
The Neapolitan pizza specialists opened in Londsdale Road in July, featuring their new deli concept selling Italian specialities.
The chain already has eateries around the UK and London, including Camden Town - which doubles as a 'Pizza Acadamy' for staff training.
Taking over the site of Ostuni Cucina Pugliese, the 50-cover restaurant opened on July 3, serving coffee and freshly baked bread in the mornings, family-friendly meals, and late night aperitivo.
