WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT HIGHGATE?
Well, before I worked here I worked in Docklands, and it is a bit of a desert. Here, there is a thronging high street, you can just go out to the shops or pop out for a coffee. It's nice to be back in the community.
WHAT IS THE WORST THING?
There's nothing bad about Highgate per say, but I would imagine being on the High Barnet branch of the Northern Line could get a tad annoying. It somehow seems to take me 20 minutes to get home to Shadwell, but 40 minutes to get back to Highgate. I don't know what I'm doing - maybe it's up a hill or something.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO WORK HERE?
- 1 'Unimaginable loss': Father and daughter stabbed to death in north London
- 2 Covid-19: Omicron variant case confirmed in Camden
- 3 Stunning light trail wraps up Kenwood like a giant Christmas present
- 4 Tottenham boss Antonio Conte looking to revamp squad in transfer windows
- 5 Hampstead Heath to host first Christmas Fayre
- 6 Camden Market has major makeover with new cinema, shops and food stalls
- 7 Warnings of ice across London amid plummeting temperatures
- 8 Hanukkah 2021: Five events in north London tonight
- 9 PLU: St John's Wood restaurant finds the right formula
- 10 Movement off the ball key to Arsenal's win against Newcastle
It's the job of my dreams. The cause, the actual people it's for and the people I work with, it's just ideal. And it all operates out of a little office in Highgate.
WHAT BOOK ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I'm not a book reader really. The last paper I read was, would you believe it, the Ham&High.
football or cricket?
Seeing how we did in the Ashes - football. Manchester City is my team: the team I chose when I was a child and I stuck with it. I did live there for a while too.
WHERE WAS YOUR LAST HOLIDAY?
I've got one coming up actually, I'm going to Hamburg on Friday. My last holiday was to Malta in October. I went to Malta and Gozo, which is lovely. It was perfect.
if you had to twin highgate with any place in the world, where would that be and why?
I would twin Highgate with Cusco in Peru. It's a Peruvian town in the Andes, and it has a similar community feel to Highgate. Like here, it has a lovely mix of architecture. I have been there five times, the last time in 2002, when I lead a trek from Cusco to Machu Picchu.
IF YOU WERE MAYOR FOR A DAY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
I'd have a special Highgate Aids day, so that people would know we are here. I don't think they know we're here at the moment.
IF YOU HAD A MILLION POUNDS TO SPEND IN A DAY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH IT?
I think I'd give it away to various charities. I'd support Childline and Interact and research into motor neurons disease. I think I'd take my friends for a really nice dinner first though.
