Jane Symonds is the landlady of the Princess of Wales pub in Primrose Hill, which last week won a website reviewers' award for the best pub in London.

What do like most about the area?

There's a village atmosphere. I don't go out much but I do like it. It's very friendly and nice to live amongst. It's great to have my job right in the middle of this.

What's the worst thing?

There isn't an awful lot. I suppose I wouldn't go down to Camden Town late at night. I'm not saying that it's not interesting, but there is trouble with lots of little gangs and sometimes we've had them up here.

Which Restaurants, pubs and shops are your favourites?

I do like the delicatessen on Regent's Park Road and I quite like the smoothies from the greengrocer's. Oh and the hardware store - the lady there is marvellous.

Do you have any favourite buildings in the area?

Not particularly - I can't say there are any that stand out. There are lots of nice houses but nothing in particular stands out in my mind.

Who was the last celebrity you saw in the area?

We obviously have a lot of famous people who come into the pub. We were doing trick or treat for children last week and Jude Law came into the pub with his children, but I don't think we were supposed to recognise him, as he was all dressed up.

What would you do if you were Mayor for the Day?

I'd probably remove the traffic wardens for a day. I think that would be popular.

If you had the chance to twin Primrose Hill with anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Somewhere in Brittany, I think.

If you had a million pounds to spend, what would you do?

I'd probably close my pub to the public and just choose who could come in - they wouldn't have to pay or anything.

With last year's smoking ban and the growing credit crunch, do you worry that pubs are facing a tough time and what do you think can be done about it?

I think everyone in the trade is going to have to have to work really hard. If you were giving 100 per cent before, then now 130 per cent is going to be needed. Trade has definitely dropped already. You can't be too greedy - you're going to have to cut corners in a way that you wouldn't have before.
