London Dreams features contrasting images of the urban and natural environment including works inspired by views of Alexandra Palace Park, Primrose Hill and Hampstead Heath.

Tina Leslie's Highgate Gallery exhibition takes in both her Natures Threads series, and impressionistic cityscapes which conjure the textures, shapes, and colours of the capital.

The Crouch End artist, who has a studio in West Hampstead's Kingsgate Workshops, is fascinated by London's contrasting architectures, the colour and atmospheric light of the river, and the structures of the urban context. Her works show familiar landmarks such as St Paul's and The Shard from different perspectives - sometimes taking a bird's eye view, at others diving in for close up detail.

Exhibited alongside them, Natures Threads are mixed media works blending photography, acrylics, pastels and painting with a viewpoint that gets up close to the tangle of nature. Leslie traces its abstract patterns, energetic rhythms and majestic colours, focusing on the shapes of lattice forms in branches, blooms, and flowers.

Leslie believes the contrasting themes and styles of town and countryside - between the representative and the abstract - speak to each other.

"I've been walking around North London for many years, taking photographs of particular spots that interest me, enjoying the mix of natural spaces and fabulous views over central London," she said. "The result is this collection of paintings - London Dreams."
