The Secret Life of no:36 is an experiment in opening up a private home to seven artists to interpret its past and present inhabitants in artworks as part of the Crouch End Festival.

Ahmed Farooqui and Alan Swann invited the artists to spend four months rummaging through their home and lives, a prospect they described at the outset as suspenseful and scary.

For all concerned it was an opportunity to explore the boundaries of what private really means – a minefield of implied permissions, personal spaces, forgotten histories, implicit tastes and beliefs.

During the exhibition, a garden café provides a convivial setting in which to discuss the art with its makers.

36 Ashley Road N19, this weekend, noon to pm.
