The local clubs, who picked up points this week, are back in Bostik Premier action on Saturday
Wingate & Finchley will seek to register a first win of the Bostik Premier season on Saturday at home to Folkestone Invicta.
Keith Rowland’s team picked up a point on Tuesday night with a 1-1 draw against Hornchurch to open their account for the campaign.
It followed a 2-1 defeat on the opening day at Worthing despite a Sean Cronin penalty.
While the Blues would no doubt have preferred to have more than one point after two games, there have been plenty of positives to take from the first seven days of the competitive term.
Away to Worthing last weekend, Wingate actually took the lead in the 34th minute when Cronin fired home from 12-yards after Rob Laney had been fouled.
It was short-lived, however, as the hosts equalised five minutes later when Callum Kealy slotted home from close range after good work by David Ajiboye.
Kealy got on the scoresheet again 11 minutes after half time to make it 2-1 to Worthing and despite late pressure, Wingate couldn’t force an equaliser.
Blues bounced back a couple of days later though, at home to new boys Hornchurch with a battling display in a 1-1 draw.
The visitors went ahead after only six minutes at the Maurice Rebak Stadium when the lively George Purcell stabbed in.
Rowland’s men fought back in the second half when ex-Urchins loanee Reece Beckles-Richards did well down the right and found Marc Charles-Smith in the middle to equalise with 53 on the clock.
Both sides pushed for a winner afterwards, but it didn’t arrive and they shared the spoils.
After two games, Wingate are mid-table ahead of playing host to Folkestone on Saturday.
Local rivals Haringey Borough, meanwhile, enjoyed a fine first week in the Bostik Premier with four points out of six to put them in the top-eight.
On Saturday, Tom Loizou’s boys produced a superb performance to hold Bognor Regis Town to a 2-2 draw at Coles Park.
An attendance of 246 witnessed Jimmy Muit open the scoring for the visitors before goals by Joel Nouble and Femi Akinwande put hosts Borough ahead.
Bognor hit back to level thanks to an unfortunate own-goal by David Olufemi, but Haringey did win on Tuesday night.
Goals by Nouble and Chinedu McKenzie downed Brightlingsea Regent 2-0 and Borough travel to Leatherhead next on Saturday.
