West Hampstead’s Harriet Dart began her road to Wimbledon with a run to the semi-finals at the Aegon Surbiton Trophy, writes Ziad Chaudry.
The 20-year-old made the most of her wild card entry in the grass court season opener by beat Georgina Garcia-Perez, Lizette Cabrera and Karolina Muchova to reach the last four.
British number two Heather Watson ended Dart’s hopes with a 6-1, 6-2 win, but the former Sarum Hall Primary and Royal School pupil advanced to 278th in the WTA world rankings
“It’s been a good week for me, so I’m very happy,” said Dart, who reached two other semi-finals this year. “I’ve just been taking it one match at a time to see how I go. There are lots of us who are my age, young and doing well. Women’s tennis is hot right now, we’re just trying to lift each other up and be successful.”
Dart is set to compete at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham this weekend.
