Two coaches from Temple Fortune Tennis Club faced Great Britain’s Davis Cup winner Jamie Murray in the final of a tournament at the weekend.
The Harbour Club in Chelsea hosted a padel tennis tournament to promote the sport – which is a mixture of tennis and squash and is popular in Spain and South America – and celebrate the opening of their new courts.
Temple Fortune’s head coach Alex Kolesnikow and senior coach Ekow Carboo beat the No1 seeds on the way to the final, where they faced Murray – the brother of Andy Murray – and his partner Alan MacDonald.
Kolesnikow and Carboo broke early on and took a 5-3 lead but they were ultimately defeated 9-7.
Kolesnikow said: “It was a fantastic experience to play against a Wimbledon tennis champion and a Davis Cup winner.
“Jamie has done such great things for British tennis so Ekow and I were very proud to be playing against such a champion.
“I’m going to take this experience back to the club, its members and our top juniors and hopefully one day one of the club’s juniors will be a Wimbledon champion too.”
Temple Fortune, which is located in Golders Green, has six floodlit outdoor courts and offers beginner and performance coaching with their five full-time qualified and experienced coaches. They have around 300 playing members, from juniors to seniors.
