Saracens centre Duncan Taylor has challenged his side to build on their 100 per cent start to the season tomorrow (Friday) when the Premiership champions travel to Belfast to face Ulster at the Kingspan Stadium in the Champions Cup.

Saracens thumped four-time winners Toulouse on Saturday, running in three tries in a comprehensive 32-7 win over the French giants. Now, Mark McCall’s side face Ulster, and Scotland centre Taylor has warned his team any complacency in their performance will be punished.

Taylor said: “Come Friday evening, our start to the season will mean very little if we don’t maintain our levels of performance from the Toulouse game.

“We were very good in that first 60 minutes against Toulouse, and we played to our structures very well and squeezed them at every opportunity.

“There was a strange feeling in the changing room at the end of the game as we didn’t record the try-scoring bonus point, but we mustn’t lose sight on the fact that we played very well against one of the best sides in Europe.

“We played well for an hour and then we saw out the game. On Friday we need to be at it once again, as playing at Ravenhill on a Friday night is one of the toughest assignments for any team in Europe.”

Saracens have a chance to stamp their authority on Pool 1 of the European Champions Cup if they win in Belfast.

Alongside Toulouse, Ulster and French side Oyonnax, Saracens will hope that an away win will put them on track to qualifying for the quarter-finals. “Last season we had a very similar group,” Taylor added.

“We played another massive French team in Clermont at home in the first game and then travelled to Ireland to face Munster a week later. We were well beaten in Limerick that night and we learned a lot from the game.

“You can’t let your levels of performance drop one per cent in this competition, as the teams you are up against as so good. We want to learn from that this Friday, and hopefully come away with the win.”
