Haringey Aquatics swimmers brought home a record 29 medals from the Middlesex County Championships.

The club collected 10 golds, 12 silvers and seven bronzes, helping Haringey Aquatics celebrate its most successful year yet.

In addition to the record-breaking medal haul, the club had 43 other finalists at the gala.

Leading the way was Max Green with five gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 50m breaststroke.

Green also took home two silvers in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, competing in the 14-and-under age category.

Shakil Giordani, in the 16-and-under category, won a total of eight medals, including golds in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Giordani also claimed silver in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle and the 100m backstroke, as well as bronzes in the 100m butterfly and the 1500m freestyle.

In addition to his medals, Giordani was awarded two trophies as the fastest 50m backstroke swimmer, 16-or-under, and fastest 50m butterfly swimmer, 16-or-under.

Max Hanson, 15, won gold, silver and bronze in the three breaststroke distances, including a trophy as the fastest 100m breaststroke swimmer 16 or under.

Kelton Ryland became county champion in the 200m breaststroke, while butterfly specialist Gareth Davies took silver in all three fly distances and 17-year-old Rose Pepperday won bronze in the 800m freestyle and the 200m breaststroke.

Haringey’s younger swimmers also impressed, with gold for Travis Kupczyk-Akomeah in the 12-and-under 50m freestyle; two silver medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and a bronze in the 200m breaststroke for 11-year-old Bianca Gomez-Velasco; and a bronze medal in the 11-and-under 50m freestyle for Luca Riddard.

Head coach Paul Doyle and coach Nathan Joseph were full of praise for the 36 strong team of swimmers — a record number of qualifiers at the county event for Haringey Aquatics, with lots of finalists, new club records and personal bests.

“With a busy gala schedule in the coming months, this was a very positive start to the season — I’m looking forward to the regionals,” said Doyle.

The results should certainly give Doyle hope!
