Betfred League One: Newcastle Thunder 46 London Skolars 14

London Skolars suffered a fifth straight defeat in Betfred League One after losing 46-14 at Newcastle Thunder.

The game was scoreless until midway through the first half when Thunder’s Remy Marginet kicked to the right and gathered to score the opening try.

Soon after, Skolars won possession in Newcastle’s half when they forced Ali Blair into touch.

From the restart, the visitors moved the ball to the left with Mike Bishay throwing a cut-out pass to Michael Brown to score, with Neil Thorman converting.

However, Thunder hit back when Blair dotted down for a score which was converted as the hosts led 10-6.

A London error led to the third try for Newcastle when Tee Ritson reached a hopeful kick from Blair before the visiting defence.

Ritson then added his second shortly after half-time, crossing after the hosts won the ball from a scrum near the tryline.

Aaron Ollett was next to go over as Thunder strengthened their grip on proceedings at Kingston Park.

Worse was to come for London as Newcastle countered from being on their own line to score through Lewis Young.

Ben Pointer also dotted down as Thunder continued their period of dominance, rounding out a flowing team move that also involved Mo Agoro and Marginet.

Skolars finally scored their second try when Daymeric Pelo forced his way over on the left.

However, the joy for the visitors was shortlived as Young crossed again soon after for the hosts.

Despite the final score, it was London who had the final word as Jordan Williams scored the game’s final try in the last minute of the match.

On the whole, it was a disappointing afternoon for Skolars on their trip to Tyneside.

London are back in action on Saturday when they make the trip to the Keepmoat Stadium to face play-off hopefuls Doncaster.

When the sides last met in May, Skolars were on the wrong end of a 42-18 scoreline at New River Stadium and will hope for better this weekend.
