HARINGEY Greyhounds picked up their second win of the season on Sunday night, and they had traffic to thank for the valuable league points.
Wightlink Raiders were scheduled to play the Hounds at Alexandra Palace, facing off at 5.30pm.
But the visitors, who were coming from the Isle of Wight, were caught up in traffic and forfeited the match.
The van carrying the Raiders' kit got separated from the players' team bus and then got lost. And then got stuck in traffic.
The Wightlink players arrived late but were informed by the match officials that the game could go ahead - as long as they had their kit.
Unfortunately, the gear failed to materialise in time for a full hour-long match to be played, so the Hounds split their team in two and played a 'friendly'.
The English Ice Hockey Association have since awarded a 5-0 win to the Hounds, as well as the two league points.
That takes Haringey out of the relegation zone ahead of their visit to sixth-placed Bracknell Hornets on Sunday.
A statement from the Wightlink Raiders says: "We offer our sincerest apologies to everyone concerned and especially to the Haringey team, their fans, and to our own fans who made the effort to travel up to Alexandra Palace."
Which is 120 miles...
