EXCLUSIVE: Eoin Sheriff says Saracens have proved they are not a boring team by breaking the Premiership points record this season.

Having crushed Clermont Auvergne 46-6 in the Heineken Cup semi-final two weeks ago, Sarries ran in another six tries to thump Worcester 44-20 in the Premiership on Saturday – and relegate the Warriors.

Flanker Jackson Wray led the way with a hat-trick, while winger Chris Ashton touched down twice and his fellow wide man David Strettle also crossed the whitewash to secure a seventh successive victory in all competitions.

The north Londoners have now scored 602 points in their 21 league matches this season – an average of nearly 30 per game – and have set a new Premiership record with one regular league fixture still to go.

“Worcester fought hard because they had relegation on the line, but we’ve really played our game more expansively this year. That’s showing now on the scoresheet and hopefully we can keep doing that,” said lock Sheriff.

“Last year some people had us down as being quite a boring team or really structured, but some of the scores we’ve got this year have been unbelievable. The lads out wide break all over the place, and the boys are finishing machines.

“The defence is what we’re built on but I think we’ve shown now that we can attack as well, and when the opportunities come up we can take them.

“If you can do that against the best teams in the world like Clermont and we can keep doing it that will just complement the defence. Everything’s going well and everyone’s delighted with that record.”

Saracens’ victory over Worcester ensured that they will finish top of the Premiership table for the second season in a row.

But, having lost in the semi-final of the play-offs last term, Sheriff knows that means little.

“You don’t get any prizes for that, as we showed last year when we finished top,” said Sheriff. “All you’re getting is a home semi-final and, with the calibre of teams that are going to be in that knockout section of the tournament, none of them are ever going to be easy.”

There is little riding on the final game of their regular league season away at Leicester on Saturday, but Sheriff insists the squad are determined to extend their winning sequence.

“Teams don’t come much bigger than Leicester,” he said. “They’re really coming into it now and they’ve got people like Manu Tuilagi. They’ve got players who can create a bit of magic from nothing and the whole team has started to fire, so we know we’ve got a huge task if we want to keep our run going.”
