UCS Old Boys and Hendon meet in Herts/Middlesex One on Saturday, both hoping for an early Christmas present.
The two local rivals meet in a derby in their final game before the league takes a break over the festive period.
Though UCS are the designated home side, the match has been switched the Hendon’s ground on Greenlands Lane.
That is a venue that holds happy memories for Old Boys, having won the previous meeting between the sides 35-29 back in September.
UCS head into Saturday’s return fixture having won their last two matches in the league.
The latest success came last weekend when Old Boys were able to record a 17-10 victory away to Barnet Elizabethans.
UCS scored three tries in the first half against Elizabethans with Charlie Esdon scoring twice and skipper Chris Bean also crossing the whitewash.
The second half was a tale of solid defence from Old Boys as they had to hold firm to deny Barnet a way back into the game.
That defensive effort is something UCS will aim to replicate against Hendon this coming Saturday.
The Greenlands Lane side, meanwhile, warmed up for this weekend’s match with a battling 17-12 loss away to high-flying St Albans.
Billy Burrell crossed for an unconverted try in the first half for Hendon in Hertfordshire last weekend as the teams went into the break level at 5-5.
Toby Ikwueke had a try disallowed in the second half, before a converted Paul Julian effort drew the Greenlands Lane side level at 12-12.
However, a third try for St Albans eventually proved to be the match-winning score despite plenty of effort and endeavour from Hendon.
Despite the result, it is a performance that is sure to give the Greenlands Lane side plenty of encouragement ahead of the match against UCS.
With Saturday’s game the last in the league for both teams before the end of 2018, both UCS and Hendon will be looking to finish the calendar year on a high.
But in a derby clash between local rivals, emotions could run high.
