Herts/Middlesex One: Staines 17 Hendon 22

Hendon collected a first win in three Herts/Middlesex One matches with a 22-17 victory at Staines.

The Greenlands Lane club made a great start with prop Gabriele Peraldo making a break, before Will Theaker finished off a backline move a try converted by Dan Watterson.

However, Hendon conceded an intercept try against the run of play, though Staines did miss the conversion.

The home team, though, did take the lead in the 23rd minute when slotting a penalty to make the score 8-7.

In a half that ebbed and flowed, an unconverted try from Theaker put the Greenlands Lane club back in the ascendancy.

Two more penalties for Staines, though, ensured they would take a 14-12 lead into half-time.

The second period was a close affair, with all of the scores in the half coming in the final 10 minutes.

Paul Julian crossed for an unconverted try for Hendon, before a penalty from Staines saw the hosts level the game at 17-17.

The crucial score came four minutes from time when Donal O’Sullivan crashed over for an unconverted try.

Hendon had to defend their line well as the clock ticked past 80 minutes, but hung on for a well-earned win.
