Saracens have won all nine games in league this term and are only side still unbeaten
Jamie George insists there is no reason why Saracens cannot go the entire Gallagher Premiership season unbeaten after maintaining their perfect record this term with a 29-6 victory at home at Wasps.
Second-half tries from George, who was making his return from international duty, and Nick Isiekwe helped the north Londoners avoid being stung by Wasps, while Alex Lozowski added 19 points from the tee against his former club.
With Exeter Chiefs losing at Harlequins on Friday, the Allianz Park outfit are now the only team yet to be beaten in the league this season.
And England international George is confident Sarries can maintain their unbeaten record for some time yet.
“There’s no reason why we couldn’t go unbeaten in the league this season. What we want to make sure we do is ‘keep pounding rock’,” said the hooker.
“It’s a quote we look to and it means that if we keep doing the basic things well, keep coming into work every day wanting to get better and wanting to progress, and we have the right people in the right places to do that, then we could do something special this season, but we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves.”
By beating Wasps, Saracens racked up a ninth straight win in the league this season and have taken a bonus point in all but three of those triumphs.
With more than half the season to go, Mark McCall’s men are already 14 points clear of third-placed Gloucester and look to be heading for home advantage in the play-off semi-finals.
But George issued an ominous warning to Sarries’ divisional rivals, stating the best is yet to come from the north Londoners.
“The nice thing is we’re not where we want to be. It sounds weird and we’ve had good results, but there’s probably only been a couple of games, at home to Bath and Gloucester, when we’ve been on it,” he added.
“I like the fact we’re building towards something and that excites me.”
Whether being their winning run put Saracens under increased scrutiny, George said: “In terms of pressure, we don’t look back too much.
“We’ll review the Wasps game and work out what we need to do, but the reason we’ve been successful in the last few years is that we don’t look too far back and don’t look too far forward.”
