Hampstead won their sixth league game out of seven after a commanding 29-0 away win over Beckenham in Championship Division Two South-East - the third tier of the women’s national pyramid.

Hampstead arrived with a strong squad of 22 players and, with some fantastic work from the forwards in the loose and dominant play at scrum, the ball was set up for the backs to use their pace and get us into a good position for an early score.

Unfortunately, when the chance came, scrum-half Ruth Burns placed the ball down for a try on the five-metre line.

It proved not to be a costly error though as Robyn Drake crossed the whitewash and Kerrie Ann Tuck converted to establish a 7-0 half-time lead.

Excellent place kicking from Truck and Fran Hall, combined with Ellie Tait’s safe hands at the line-out, kept the visitors on the front foot after the interval and Jen Harvey, Anna Jones, captain Sylvie Fail and Rachel Berry all touched down, while Truck added another conversion to complete an emphatic triumph.

Third-placed Hampstead will be looking to build on their success when they host second-placed Hammersmith and Fulham this weekend.

Meanwhile, Hampstead’s men’s team suffered a 36-19 home defeat against St Albans in London Division Two North-West.

Jordan Wood, Dan Dimoline and Eoin Power all dotted down, while Will Verona got two conversions, but the hosts trailed 17-14 at the break and two yellow cards then ruined their chances of overturning the deficit.
