UCS Old Boys were defeated 71-30 away against Verulamians in Saturday’s final game of the season, finishing seventh in the standings – but director of rugby Geoff Boxer is optimistic about the future, both on and off the field.
He told Ham&High Sport: “After a couple of years which have seen the first XV endure two successive relegations from London North West Division Two, the club has now stabilised this season in Herts/Middlesex League One.
“We are in a rebuilding phase on the pitch but there is great optimism for the future, with a talented group of younger players coming through from the school [UCS] and the local area, many of which have gained valuable experience of league rugby this season, with the first XV finishing with a record of nine wins, one draw and 12 defeats.
“The club is also now entering an exciting phase off the field. UCS are redeveloping both the pitches and sports pavilion at West Hampstead, with the drainage work and building starting in 12 months’ time.
“Completion of this ambitious project in September 2018 will see the school and Old Boys sports sections, including the rugby club, enjoy some of the best sports facilities in London.”
