Sarries host Warriors in final game of 2017 on Saturday
Nick Isiekwe is keen for another good defensive display from Saracens when they host Worcester Warriors in the Aviva Premiership on Saturday.
Sarries impressed in defence last weekend as they restricted a talented Leicester Tigers side to just two tries in a 29-17 win at Welford Road.
Despite languishing near the foot of the table, Worcester certainly have players capable of causing Mark McCall’s men problems this weekend.
But lock Isiekwe believes another strong defensive display from the north Londoners will give them the platform from which they can down Warriors on Saturday.
“All the boys had spoken about it all week before the Leicester game, that defence is what we pride ourselves on,” the 19-year-old England international told the club website.
“We wanted to go to Leicester and put a real good defensive display on. The boys did that and of course there are things to work on, but it was outstanding at Leicester.
“We’ll look back in training, see where we need to improve and roll on to the next game.”
The win at Leicester last weekend saw Saracens finally snap a seven-game losing streak in all competitions which was their worst run of form for 15 years.
Jamie George crossed the whitewash in the first half after the north Londoners had earlier been awarded a penalty try in the win, while stand-in skipper Owen Farrell kicked the other 17 points.
Victory saw the Allianz Park outfit move back up to second in the table, though 10 points split them from leaders Exeter.
And Isiekwe was pleased with the determination of the team pick up a win and finally end their rotten run of form.
“It was one of those games where we had to grind the win out. It’s felt like over the past couple of weeks, that kind of performances has been brewing,” he added.
“It wasn’t pretty, but the boys dug in deep and we’re happy to get the win, as well as with the performance.”
The clash at home to Worcester will be the final game of the calendar year for Saracens, who begin 2018 with a trip to title challengers Wasps on January 7.
But with one final game to come before the New Year, Sarries will hope to cap a memorable 2017 in style with a victory at home to Warriors come Saturday.
