Sarries host Ospeys this weekend, looking to build on eight-try demolition of Northampton Saints

Calum Clark insists Saracens can ill-afford to get carried away in the European Champions Cup, despite starting their defence with an emphatic win on Sunday.

The two-time defending champions return home to Allianz Park on Saturday when they host Guinness Pro14 outfit Ospreys.

The Men in Black will look to make it two wins from two having started Pool Four with a 58-13 crushing of Avivia Premiership rivals Northampton Saints.

The bonus-point success saw Saracens top the group after the opening round of matches, but flanker Clark knows the north Londoners cannot become complacent ahead of hosting the Welsh side.

“We have to work just as hard as we always do, refocus and work out what Ospreys are trying to do,” the 28-year-old told the club website.

“They started with a pretty close game (Ospreys lost 26-21 at home to Clermont Auvergne) so they’ll be bang up for it and looking to shock us at Allianz Park, so we have to be on it again.”

Clark came up against his former club last weekend and was one of seven different players to cross the whitewash for Saracens in an eight-try demolition of Saints.

Mark McCall’s men had secured a try bonus point before half time at Franklin’s Gardens, with summer signings Liam Williams crossing for a brace before the interval.

Brad Barritt, Vincent Koch, Mako Vunipola, Alex Lozowski and Ben Spencer also dotted down in the triumph for the Men in Black.

The margin of victory perhaps surprised many observers, with Northampton only three points behind Saracens in domestic competition.

But Clark believes it was testament to the work the north Londoners put in on the training pitch prior to the clash.

“They’ve been playing really well in the league, so we knew it was going to be a massive challenge on the first night of the competition,” he added.

“We had been right on it in the week, so it felt good to put what we practiced onto the field and come away with a good result.”

If Saracens can avoid defeat this weekend, it will see them make it 20 games unbeaten in European competition, having not lost in the tournament since their semi-final defeat against Clermont way back in April 2015.
