Hampstead’s hopes of reaching the play-offs were dented on Saturday as they suffered a surprise home defeat to Grasshoppers in London Division 2 North-West.
Hampstead lie third in the table and will secure a play-off tie for promotion if they can grab second spot.
However, they went down 29-23 against Grasshoppers, who rose from 10th place to ninth as a result of their shock victory – and second-placed Hemel Hempstead took full advantage, extending their lead with a comprehensive 91-10 home win over London Nigerian.
Elsewhere in the division, struggling UCS Old Boys lost 33-17 at Harpenden.
There were also defeats for Belsize Park and Hendon in Herts/Middlesex 1, with BP going down 26-22 at home against league leaders Harrow, while Hendon lost 64-3 at home against London Welsh Amateurs.
