Saracens’ Marlie Packer was among the try scorers as England seal a 3-0 Old Mutual Wealth series win over Canada at Twickenham on Saturday.

Five tries from Jess Breach and a hat-trick from Abby Dow led the way as the Red Roses completed their whitewash, with the hosts ahead after only seven minutes as Packer dotted down from a driving maul.

Dow did superbly to gather Katy Daley-Mclean’s grubber kick for her first of the evening and Breach crossed from a burst of pace around the outside, before Canada responded as Olivia De Merchant showed her power as she went over from close range.

Dow’s second and third tries came with smart finishes out wide before Breach’s second gave England a 38-7 half-time lead.

Canada’s Pamphinette Buisa got the first score of the second half but England responded through their powerful maul as a penalty try was awarded as they were driving over the line.

Canada then got their own penalty try following a high tackle, but Breach secured her hat-trick, before a run from deep inside her own half sealed a fourth, and another line break from the halfway line took the tally to five.

Ellie Kildunne completed the scoring when she collected another Daley-Mclean kick through, as England ran in 11 tries on the night.

Poppy Cleall won her 17th cap alongside Saracens clubmate Packer in the England forwards, while Zoe Harrison came off the bench for her third cap.

Head coach Simon Middleton said: “We knew Canada would come out strong in the final game and I really wanted the team to put in a more complete performance.

“We had a great start, maybe lost our way a little bit at the start of the second half, but overall we are absolutely thrilled with what the team delivered.

“It’s been a great experience and introduction to international rugby for the new players, they have been outstanding. As a team we have maximised the opportunity we had in this series and you can’t ask for more than that.”
