Camden's Martin Power believes he will add the Commonwealth bantamweight title to his British crown tonight when he tackles South African champion Tshifhiwa Munyai at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre, in Dagenham.

The former St Pancras amateur star is looking for revenge after losing to Munyai in controversial circumstances at York Hall last June.

"The first time we fought I had trained for an opponent six inches shorter than me but what I got on the night was one six inches taller than me," Power told Ham&High Sport.

Munyai, a late replacement for Ian Napa, forced Power's corner to stop the fight in the ninth round to save the British champion from permanent damage.

Power (pictured) was furious at the time and vowed to avenge his only professional defeat in 20 fights. "I was offered other fights by by promoter Frank Maloney but this is the one I wanted," he said. "I've put my desire to win the Lonsdale belt to one side because I feel I have to correct my mistake."

And it is a view shared by Power's trainer Johnny Eames. "Martin's been sparring 10 rounders against much taller fighters in preparation for Munyai," said Eames.

"He wants to put the record straight. He was offered three fights but wanted to take on Munyai again and it was a decision I fully went along with.

"Martin didn't train properly for the first fight against Munyai. It was taken at short notice after a change in opponent.

"The training this time has gone very well. We've stayed in London and decided not to go to our usual training camp in Tenerife.

"Munyai's a good fighter but he's not as good as he's been talked up.

"He is beatable and provided Martin's last week's training goes well, he will win."

After the Munyai fight, Power is planning another defence of his British title against Hackney's Ian Napa in May.

"It will be his third defence of the title and it has always been Martin's ambition to win a Lonsdale belt outright," said Eames. "After that we are aiming at the European title."
