Harman Drive side won by eight wickets at home to Enfield last weekend

James Overy says Brondesbury are relishing the challenge of being top of Middlesex County Division Two ahead of Saturday's trip to Osterley.

An eight-wicket win at home to Enfield last weekend took the Harman Drive club to the top of the standings, though they are level on points with Crouch End in second and just a point clear of Brentham in third.

Taking over at the summit may have placed a target on Brondesbury's backs, with rival teams all looking to claim the scalp of the leaders.

But rather than fear the pressure that comes with being top, skipper Overy says the Harman Drive team are looking forward to being the ones others are chasing.

"I hope other teams want to beat us because that's a sign that we're doing well," said Overy.

"We've seen that there have been some good scores made at Osterley and hopefully we can make the most of conditions.

"Osterley have been up-and-down in the first few weeks of the season which probably makes them tougher as you're never too sure what to expect.

"If we can play like we have been playing, then I'm confident about our chances, but we have to deal with the pressure of being top."

Having been relegated from the Premier Division last term, Brondesbury look to have hit the ground running in Division Two with three wins from four games.

That form has taken them to the top of the standings in the early weeks of the campaign to leave them well-placed for an immediate return to the top flight.

But with plenty more twists and turns to come in the coming months, Overy knows his side must continue to play to the standards they have set for themselves.

"It's nice to be top of the table after four games, but we know that all that matters is being in the top two after 18 games," he added.

"There's still a long way to go in the season and the teams that win promotion at the end of it are the ones who have been the most consistent.

"We're working on what we need to in training to make sure we are the most consistent.

"This season is about building as a club and making sure the foundations are in place to be successful for years to come, but if that leads to promotion this season too, then that would be great."
