North Middlesex captain Joel Hughes says his side must just focus on their fixture at Ealing rather than what is going on elsewhere around the Middlesex League on the final day of the season.

They travel  to Ealing on Saturday with the Premier Division title still in sight although North Middlesex, Crouch End and Teddington can all still be crowned champions.

Crouch End face Twickenham as Teddington come up against Richmond with all three sides hoping results go their way.

“Whatever is happening in the league table, Ealing is always a huge game, we always want to beat Ealing so we’ll just focus on our game,” said Hughes.

“We will try putting on a good performance, try to win the game, and then just see what happens elsewhere in the league.

“You can’t really help but do that (look at your phone) can you. It’s exciting and if there is a sniff of it, we’ve still got to concentrate on what is happening at Ealing, it’s not going to be an easy game especially with the way we’ve played in the last couple of weeks as we haven’t been at our best.”

North Middlesex could have been in control of the title race, but they suffered a seven-wicket defeat to Teddington last weekend, after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

They were bowled out for 140 before Teddington scored 144-3 in reply to dent their title hopes.

The skipper praised Teddington for their performance and felt they fully deserved to win the match, no matter how disappointing it was for his side.

“You never know, we do need results to go our way now, but disappointed,” Hughes said. “To be honest, they outplayed us, they bowled well and fielded well.

“We were probably 50 or 60 short with the bat and I thought we bowled pretty tidy, but we didn’t quite have enough runs against what is a very good Teddington side, they’ve got two or three of the best batters in the league in my opinion.

“I don’t really have any complaints about the result as they were better than us on the day.”
