All the latest action as Hampstead settle for a point against Teddington

Hampstead gained just one point after failing to get anywhere near Teddington’s total of 319 on a fair wicket at Lymington Road.

James Keightley (71) and James Fear (39) got third-placed Teddington off to a great startafter they had been put in to bat.

The visitors’ tally had reached 111 when Joe Ewan finally made the breakthrough, catching Keightley off Zac Khan (2-100).

Fear then fell to Brandon Buckley (4-107) to leave them on 122-2.

Hampstead appeared to have slowed their visitors’ progress when Buckley had James Wade (22) trapped lbw and skipper Joe Cotterell caught Harry Lloyd for a duck off Khan to leave them 140-4.

Yet Teddington pushed on, led by Ben Jones (53), and the visitors had cruised past 200 when Max Page (20) was caught by Ed Jones off Buckley’s bowling.

Joshua Lalor (46) and Patrick Foster (51) kept up the good work which, allied to some tardy fielding from Hampstead, enabled them to thwart the home side’s attack.

Hampstead made a breakthrough when Matt Kabir Floyd caught Lalor off Robert Tidey and Cotterell stumped Foster off Buckley.

Alex Scott (2 not out) and Mark Phythian (0no) helped them to 319-8 in 64 overs.

Hampstead’s reply began well when Kabir Floyd (80) and Rob Tidey (19) took them to 49-0, only for Tidey to be caught by Page off Duncan (2-48).

Kabir Floyd was joined by Brandon Buckley (27no), who was forced to retire unbeaten with a suspected torn calf to leave them 92-2.

Trapped

The hosts looked to have it all to do when Ed Jones was trapped lbw for a duck by Alex Scott (3-19).

Howver Kabir Floyd had other ideas and pushed the tally along to 147 before he was run out.

George Leadbetter (21), caught by Phythian off Scott, departed soon after and John Lombard failed to add to the tally before he was caught by Page off Scott for 152-6.

However the tail refused to go down without a fight and Tom Forsdike (8), Cotterell (8) and Khan (4) kept on to secure a point.

Cotterell said: “The fact that we did not manage a single draw last season is probably the only consolation they can take from this game.

“With Stanmore visiting next Saturday, we will need to improve in all facets if we are to get back to winning ways.”

Ealing (10) 281-4

Brondesbury (0) 245

A shrewd unbeaten innings from Rory Christopherson proved to be in vain as Brondesbury’s tail finally crumbled under pressure from the league leaders, writes Ben Kosky.

Christopherson, batting in tandem with Nick Jones and then Sam Smith, had guided Brondesbury to within 50 runs of victory as they chased a demanding target at Harman Drive.

But the relentless accuracy of Ealing’s former Middlesex spinner Chris Peploe finally wore the home side down, leaving Christopherson stranded on 41 not out as the last five wickets fell for 11 runs.

Champions Ealing, who retain their 100 per cent record in the Premier Division, made the early running after they were put in to bat, despite losing Patrick Fallis (5) to Toby Sharpe.

Ned Eckersley bludgeoned eight boundaries in an innings of 46 before Will Vanderspar breached his defences, but Simon Hawk and Mylo Wilkin then put on 118 for the third wicket.

Irfan Ahmed (2-67) finally ended Wilkin’s stay at the crease when he had the Ealing batsman caught behind for 54, but Hawk went on to pass his ton and had reached 122 when Ahmed claimed him as well.

Soon after Hawk’s exit, visiting captain David Holt (34not out) declared at 281-4 from 58 overs – giving Brondesbury time to attempt a run chase.

Comfortable

Chris Paget (43) and Vanderspar looked comfortable as they put together an opening stand of 93, ended only when Peploe – who bowled almost unchanged – found the leading edge of Paget’s bat and Huw Jones took the catch.

Vanderspar and Joe Moore guided Brondesbury beyond the tea interval to 130-1, but a sharp piece of fielding from Mylo Wilkin ran out Vanderspar for 52 and new man Adam Sargent made just a single before Sameer Patel had him caught close in.

With the scoring rate dropping, Moore then fell leg before to Peploe for 27 and, at 150-4, Brondesbury’s hopes of victory seemed to have evaporated.

But Jones and Christopherson kept them in contention with a tidy partnership of 54 and, although the captain perished for 37, Christopherson continued to farm the bowling and some attacking shots from Sam Smith maintained the momentum.

With almost exactly a run a ball required, Brondesbury had advanced to 234-5 when Smith (22) took a swing at Oliver Wilkin and skied the ball straight into the bowler’s hands.

Relieved

A relieved Ealing side moved in for the kill and David Franklin spooned a return catch to Peploe (5-69) before Ahmed edged the spinner behind and Sharpe (0) was caught at short leg.

By now, Brondesbury’s only aim was to block out the remaining four overs, but they failed to do that as Oliver Wilkin pinned last man Kishen Ladva in front of his stumps first ball to end the innings at 245.

Sout Hampstead (0) 197

Bessborough (10) 201-6

South Hampstead slipped to the foot of the Division Three table when they lost at Bessborough, despite opener Alex Ranger providing them with a solid platform.

Ranger (72) and Umair Choudrey (9) got the visitors off to a good start, reaching 41 before Ian Barrie trapped Choudrey lbw.

South Hampstead’s next two wickets fell for no score.

Skipper Paul Atherley departed for a duck when he was lbw to Gary Linton-Walls (2-27) and Edward Williams (0) was bowled by Rohan Khakanis (1-20) to leave the visitors on 56-3.

Nish Patel (13) settled nerves and had taken them to 90-4 when he was dismissed by Linton-Walls. Bessborough skipper Sherrick Chavda (4-22) followed up by bagging the first of his four wickets when he caught and bowled Ranger.

He followed up by having Nayan Doshi trapped for a duck to restrict South Hampstead on 110-6.

South Hampstead looked done for when Barrie had Sam Bardon (25) trapped lbw, and Chavda bowled Wajid Tahir (3).

Yet the visitors refused to roll over and Jamal Ahmed (30) and Jeremy Medlin (30 not out) ensured that the tail wagged to reach 197.

In reply, Bessborough were rocked when they lost William Grogan (8), caught by Ranger off Medlin (1-39).

Struggled

But the South Hampstead bowlers struggled to make further inroads as Bessborough got into their stride, reaching 96 before Whitson (42) was lbw to become the first of four victims for Nayan Doshi (4-43) .

Almost immediately, Menesh Gunalan (47) was run out, and Doshi struck again to trap Ramesh Gunalan (9) lbw for 117-4.

Doshi then trapped Chavda lbw for a duck, but by the time he removed Barrie (50), Bessborough were 176-6.

Kunal Metha (34 not out) and Linton-Walls (7no) steered them home to win with four wickets in hand.

? Alexandra Park surged to the top of Division Two of the Middlesex Championship after they scorched to 196 against Swamibapa, and then removed their opponents for 95.

Derick Cordy (26) and Josh De Kock got the innings under way with a stand of 50, backed up. by Samir Patel (39), Danushka (33) and Munish Grover (28). In reply, Nigel Bagley maintained the advantage by taking 5-37.
