Alex Jakeman scored a last-minute winner as Hampstead & Westminster’s men came from behind to claim their Premier Division victory in four games on Sunday, beating Beeston 2-1.
Hampstead fell behind after half an hour as Beeston midfielder Harry Martin beat two defenders at the top of the circle and crossed for his Great Britain team-mate Adam Dixon, who was given an easy tap-in.
However, Richard Alexander levelled the scores with a fine strike after a penalty corner broke down. And, although Beeston won a series of their own penalty corners, they were nullified by the brave running of Harry Slater and the accomplished goalkeeping of Harry Gibson – and with just a minute left, a long corner was moved to Toby Roche on the right side and he delivered an accurate ball for Jakeman, who cutely deflected it past Jamie Cachia at his near post, taking Hampstead up to fifth place.
Meanwhile, Hampstead & Westminster Ladies twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw away at St Albans in the Conference East, with Brodie Fairchild and Helen Cathcart scoring the equalisers.
However, they bowed out of the National Cup on Sunday, losing 3-1 against Premier Division outfit Buckingham.
