HARINGEY Greyhounds' wretched start to the new campaign continued with a double defeat at the weekend.
A 13-1 drubbing away at Wightlink Raiders on Saturday evening left Lee Mercer's side in a demoralised mood for Sunday's clash against Peterborough Islanders, and they duly slipped to a 6-3 reverse at Alexandra Palace.
Those results leave the Hounds languishing at the foot of the table after four games, having already conceded 41 goals and scored just seven in reply.
Haringey did at least put up a fight on Sunday, at one stage coming back from 2-0 down to draw level at 2-2 with goals from Gareth O'Flaherty and Ryan Payne.
Stuart Dane restored Peterborough's lead, scoring the fifth goal of the opening period with help from Ross Mackintosh, and the provider then turned scorer to press home the visitors' advantage.
However, the Hounds responded again within three minutes as Scott Beeson set up Gary Dodds.
The scores remained unchanged for 25 minutes and, with six remaining, Haringey were well in the game and chasing an equaliser.
However, the home side were unable to nick a share of the spoils as the Islanders grabbed two goals in the closing stages.
Again Mackintosh was the scorer, and he ended the contest with four goals and two assists.
To make matters worse for the Hounds they face their tormentor and Peterborough again this Saturday - this time away from home - before hosting Streatham Redskins in a London derby at Ally Pally on Sunday, facing off at 5.30pm.
Greyhounds (v Peterborough): Partington, Doyle, Dodds, Richards, Curtin, Payne, M Saunders, L Saunders, O'Flaherty, Webb, Ranby, Gallagher, Bird, Beeson, Appleby, Fox, Feighery.
