HAMPSTEAD'S hot streak continued on Saturday when they trounced Finchley in their London League division three clash at Summers Lane.

The resounding victory was Hampstead's fifth straight league win and are now six points adrift of leaders Harpenden in sixth place on 12 points.

Hampstead were forced to show real grit last week to overcome a bold Twickenham outfit but on Saturday swiftly built on an early lead to totally overwhelm the hosts.

"We performed much better this week," admitted Hampstead coach Ali Halsall.

"Our scrum and lineouts were working well and our handling in contact was superb.

"The most pleasing part was not conceding any points. Despite some early penalties our defence was very strong.

"The boys have worked very hard at training and our results are evidence of that."

Finchley spurned an early chance to take the lead on Saturday when they were awarded a penalty in the fifth minute but the kick fell short of the posts.

The visitors then had the chance to take the lead with a penalty of their own but the normally reliable Dave Mold pushed the ball wide.

Two minutes later Hampstead lock Andy Levett opened the scoring with a well-worked try, converted by Mold for 7-0 advantage.

Finchley regrouped but failed to cope with Hampstead's attack, allowing wing Ben Fenhert to cross for his team's second try of the half, again converted by the prolific Mold.

Mold then had the chance to add to the tally with another penalty just before the break but missed to leave the score 14-0 at half-time.

In the second half, Finchley upped the tempo and initially put the visitors under pressure.

But the home side failed to maintain the momentum and Hampstead soon took control.

The visitors' efforts were soon rewarded when hooker Ben Martyr touched down for a try, again converted by Mold.

Hampstead continued to dominate possession and in the 75th minute were awarded a penalty try that once again was converted by Mold for a decisive 28-0 victory.

Hampstead are without a competitive game over the weekend.

Their next match is at home to neighbours UCS Old Boys on December 20.

Hampstead squad: Henderson, Martyr, Darke, Gornall, Levett, Perkins, Lacey, Wadsworth, Dodwell, Mold, Van Bosch, Jenkins, Evans, Fenhert, Craigs, Smith, Paul, Tanner.
