Hornsey batsman Chetan Patel feels his side are “back on track” after ending a three-match winless streak to regain second place in Division Two of the Middlesex County League.

The Tivoli Road side had dropped out of the promotion places after gleaning just three points from their last three games, but returned to form by crushing Harrow St Mary’s.

Seamer Nii Amaa-Ollenu claimed five wickets as the Saints were rolled over for only 64 and Hornsey knocked off the required runs with three wickets down.

Patel, who was alongside Jamie Harris at the crease when the victory was confirmed, said: “We had a lean spell when we weren’t consistent enough but we’re back on track now.

“Fortunately, while we were in that sticky patch, some other results went our way and we now find ourselves back in the running after a really convincing win.

“Now we want to get the momentum going and open up a gap over third place. We go to Wembley next and, although they’re holding up the table, that doesn’t mean we’ll find it easy to win.”

A hostile opening spell by Ollennu, who finished with 5-27, knocked the stuffing out of HSM, with Tom Waine taking two wickets and Paul Weekes and Joe Emmanuel one apiece.

Harris hit an undefeated 30 in reply, with Garfield Struthers adding 24 as Hornsey reached their modest target in the 23rd over.

Elsewhere in the division, Brondesbury were unable to beat Wembley at home and dropped into fourth place – but they are only four points outside the promotion spots.

Sasha Ward hit 102 and Anthony Wilkinson notched 59 as Bron declared on 229-6, but their visitors reached 139-6 from their 53 overs.

Tuesday’s training session took place in partnership with Opening Up – an organisation that aims to increase awareness of mental health issues through cricket – who delivered a mind and body session focusing on the link between physical and mental health.
