Hendon dominated much of their clash away at Feltham, but defensive errors allowed the league leaders to record a 34-15 victory in Herts/Middlesex Division Two.

The pacesetters took the lead in the 20th minute, gaining advantage from a forward pass that was not spotted by the referee.

And, although Hendon pressed forward and enjoyed much of the possession in Feltham’s 22 – largely thanks to Mark Ivers’ efforts – an error allowed the home side to create an overlap and run the ball out of defence for an easy try.

The tabletoppers went on to score a penalty with the last kick of the half, taking a 15-0 advantage into the break.

However, Hendon were totally in control at the start of the second period, and Mike Evans-Jones converted a penalty to put their first points on the board.

Unfortunately, another tackling error cost the visitors dearly as Feltham again broke through the middle for a converted touchdown.

Hendon fought back with excellent play from back row Harry Charles, while Brian O’Regan dominated play on the Feltham five-metre line – and after repeated offenses at the scrum, the referee awarded a penalty try, with Evans-Jones adding the extras.

The away team were back in the game at 22-10 and, from the restart, flanker Harry Charles kicked over the defence and collected the ball, with captain Ger O’Donoghue scoring an unconverted try in the corner to narrow the gap to 22-15.

The match was on a knife-edge, but Feltham ran in another two easy tries to deny the visitors a deserved bonus point.
