Ryman Premier Division: Hendon 1 Whitehawk 1

Hendon maintained their recent run of form by holding runaway Ryman Premier Division leaders Whitehawk to a 1-1 draw at Vale Farm on Tuesday.

Dean Cracknell almost gave the Greens an early lead with a 35-yard effort after a poor clearance left goalkeeper Chris Winterton stranded, but Mark Knee’s block on the line denied him.

Whitehawk went ahead in the 13th minute when a towering header from Hakheem Araba hit the crossbar and Andy Pearson knocked in the rebound.

But Hendon levelled five minutes later as Cracknell – with the aid of a slight deflection – chipped the ball over Winterton and in off the underside of the bar.

Both teams had chances to grab a winner but the final ball was always lacking.

Lee Angol and Sean Sonner had previously netted their first goals for the club as Hendon won 2-1 at bottom side Carshalton Athletic on Saturday.

The Greens went ahead in the eighth minute when Carshalton’s defence failed to pick up Angol, who sped through and smacked his finish into the bottom corner.

And the visitors doubled their lead 12 minutes later as Jack Connors turned his marker and delivered a teasing low ball that Sonner flicked across the line.

Carshalton narrowed the deficit on the stroke of half-time, when Sean O’Toole was upended in the penalty area and Nathaniel Pinney’s spot-kick was just too good for Berkley Laurencin.

But Laurencin had little to do in a pedestrian second half, with Elliott Brathwaite looking solid in defence and Kevin Maclaren shielding the back four efficiently.

Hendon should have increased their lead as Angol’s chip was headed into the side netting by Junior Morias, and substitute Belal Aite-Ouakrim’s effort was saved by Robins goalkeeper Nick Hamann at full stretch.
