Hendon boss Gary McCann admits he is “embarrassed” by Hendon’s lowly league placing – but he expects it to change as players return from injury and suspension.

McCann’s side have won just twice in the Ryman League Premier Division and lie third from bottom, albeit with games in hand on the teams around them.

However, the Greens boss is hoping to welcome back striker Kezie Ibe and defender Ollie Sprague for Saturday’s game at Worthing, while full-back Chris Seeby will also return after serving a ban.

“I can honestly say I’m embarrassed with our league position, especially with the quality we’ve got in the side,” said McCann.

“But if we’re at full strength I have no doubt that our league form will improve. We haven’t often had our full quota on the pitch in the league but we’ve managed to do that in the FA Cup. That’s just coincidence more than anything.

“Anyone who watched our game at Boreham Wood will have seen that we can stand toe to toe with opposition at a higher level, so we need to replicate that kind of display and start climbing the table.

“It’s starting to look like we’re moving in the right direction squad-wise and the league is so tight at present that three wins, or two wins and a draw, can see you climb dramatically.”
