Herts/Middlesex One: Hendon 60 St Albans 7

Hendon collected an emphatic 60-7 success at home to St Albans on Saturday, a result that saw them move to within a point of the visitors in Herts/Middlesex One.

Not knowing what to expect, Cian Hynes kicked a penalty after three minutes of play as St Albans were penalised early on.

The visiting pack then pressured Hendon’s defence, but the hosts stood firm and saw out the period without conceding.

A carry from Hendon prop Paul Julian allowed the hosts to break forward, with Hynes eventually crossing for a score he converted himself to make it 10-0.

Rob Casey and Will Theaker also dotted down, with Hynes adding one conversion, as Hendon led 22-0 at the break.

The second half saw no let up as Hendon took full advantage sloping pitch at Greenlands Lane and ran in a further six tries to secure a bonus point.

Theaker, Ben Gold, Donal O’Sullivan, Hynes, Dan Watterson and Casey all crossed after the interval, before St Albans had the final say with the game’s last try.

Hendon round out their league campaign on Saturday with a trip to Barnet Elizabethans.
