Mubasher Hassan took six wickets as Hampstead continued their resurgence with an emphatic nine-wicket victory away against league leaders Teddington in the Premier Division of the Middlesex County Cricket League.
Hassan took 6-13 while Zak Khan claimed 3-15 as the hosts were dismissed for just 66, and Hampstead’s Steve Clark (33 not out) and Ben Scott (32no) took the visitors over the winning line at 67-1 after just 14.1 overs.
Reigning champions Hampstead were third from bottom two weeks ago, 29 points off the top and just two above the drop zone after winning just one of their first eight games.
However, back-to-back victories over second-placed Twickenham and pacesetters Teddington have taken them up to fifth.
The chairman of Hampstead’s playing committee, Nick Brown, said: “It’s a great result, but freakish and not indicative of any difference between the teams. Some days everything goes your way and Saturday was one of them.
“Nonetheless, we are happy to collect another win and, with the other results in the league this weekend, it helps to bring everyone closer together.
“We can’t afford to let ourselves get carried away as our results in the first half of the season left us way off the pace, but we are starting to get some momentum.

“It would be a stretch to say that we are right in the mix at the top, but we are back in touch and, having beaten the top two teams in the table in the last two weeks, I think we have signalled to any doubters that we aren’t ready to be written off just yet.”
While Hassan and Khan laid the foundations for the victory with their bowling, Brown had words of praise for the batsmen – and one in particular.
“We adopted a very positive attitude with the bat and it was great that Steve Clark and Ben Scott knocked off the runs,” he said.
“It’s no secret that Ben has struggled for runs this season and we are all happy that he got some this time. He has been working hard and his attitude has been exactly what you would expect of someone who has played the game professionally.”
