West Hampstead’s Harriet Dart was unable to capitalise on a strong start to her clash with Robin Anderson as she exited the Aegon Surbiton Trophy in the first round on Tuesday.
Dart, who attended Sarum Hall primary school in Swiss Cottage and then the Royal School in Hampstead, was handed a wildcard for the tournament and was pitted against a player who is 222 places above her in the world rankings.
The 19-year-old, who has won the Aegon Team Tennis national title with the Cumberland club, on Alvanley Gardens in Hampstead, nonetheless won the first set after a tie-break.
However, the American Anderson – the world No199 – fought back to take the next two sets 6-1, 6-2 and progress to the second round.
