Haringey Huskies had a tough weekend against two of the division’s most fancied teams.

The Alexandra Palace-based club suffered a 13-5 defeat at home to Peterborough Phantoms’ NIHL2 team – a rebranding of last season’s Peterborough Islanders – was a disappointing showing.

However, the team bounced back well the following night away at Bracknell Hornets and put in a very solid performance despite the 5-3 defeat.

Phantoms have retained almost all the players who have caused Haringey so many problems over the last two seasons and soon got to work with their slick, accurate passing game.

Veterans Shaun Yardley and Dan Peters traded goals before the visitors opened up a 3-1 first period lead with goals from brothers Nathan and Conor Pollard.

Through the second and third periods, Peterborough were on fire and the goals started to flow against an increasingly dispirited Haringey team.

A sole Lee Mercer strike was the only interruption as the Phantoms helped themselves.

Conor Pollard ended up with four goals, Nathan Pollard and Clint Herring got hat-tricks with further goals from Jake Samal and Connor Stokes.

For Huskies, the Bracknell game on Sunday was much better.

Netminder David Wride was busy and made excellent saves throughout the game.

He kept the lively Hornets at bay for the whole first period allowing Huskies to take the lead in the 16th minute with a lovely Daniel Clayton goal - skating up the left, beating his man, gliding across the keeper and slotting home.

Former Haringey forward Josh Ealey-Newman levelled for Bracknell in the 25th minute and two quick goals late in the period from Ben Ealey-Newman and William Stead turned the tie in the host’s favour.

Huskies kept going and a Lee Mercer goal in the 51st minute gave some hope, but Josh Ealey-Newman made it 4-2 shortly after to keep Hornets clear.

Late goals from Bracknell’s Steve Fisher and Clayton for the Huskies concluded an entertaining game.

Huskies will take heart from the manner of their performance against such a quality side as they prepare for their trip to Guildford Phoenix on Saturday night (5.30pm face-off).
