Haringey boys beat defending champions Harrow as well as Enfield and Wandsworth on Sunday to qualify for the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games Cricket Cup Finals: the Super 8s.

The Haringey team performed well, prevailing in a last over thriller against Enfield. They now have the chance, along with seven other boroughs, to win the tournament and be crowned Champions of London. The Super 8s will be held at Lord's Indoor School, the same facility used by England stars such as Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen, on 7th March.

Commenting on their success, Haringey Captain William Mathews said: 'The team did brilliantly to qualify from this group. It was nerve racking watching that last over, my legs are still shaking."

A record 600 young cricketers from 30 boroughs will compete at the 2009 qualifiers, with the qualifiers for girls due to take place on 28th February and 1st March. The Cricket Cup was first introduced in 1996 and is a 6 a side, indoor competition for under14s. Last year's winners were Harrow boys and Merton girls.
