Tom Loizou was content with Haringey Borough’s Bank Holiday weekend after they progressed in the FA Cup and earned a hard-fought point in the Bostik Premier.

On Saturday, a goal from substitute Chinedu McKenzie was enough to earn a 1-0 win over Stanway Rovers at Coles Park.

Two days later and Borough were in action again and after a tight clash with Potters Bar Town, they had to settle for a point following a goalless draw.

Reflecting on the stalemate first of all, Loizou said: “It was a very difficult game on a difficult pitch.

“We are not at full strength yet and away from home, up against a team who won promotion automatically last season, you have to be happy with a point.”

Haringey’s manager did feel his side had the chances to win Monday’s encounter at the Pakex Stadium.

But without summer signing Femi Akinwande, due to a hamstring injury picked up on Saturday, they struggled in front of goal and could only draw 0-0.

Loizou added: “I felt we outplayed them at times and created chances, but we didn’t take them and we are missing our forward Femi, who is still out due to injury.”

After playing twice in the space of three days, the Coles Park club, who come up from the Bostik North last season, could be happy with their return.

Saturday’s win in the preliminary round of the FA Cup pocketed the north Londoners £2,890 in prize money.

It was goalless at half time and proving to be a frustrating afternoon for Borough, but a couple of substitutions inspired success.

Michael Ademiluyi and McKenzie were introduced for Rakim Richards and Jordan Edwards and the first sub tapped home the winner in the 69th minute.

“Stanway were a very hard team to break down. They came to us and parked the bus as they say,” Loizou said.

“They played so deep and we made a change and got the goal, but then in the last 10 minutes they could have beaten us, so it was a funny, old game.”
