Bostik Premier: Burgess Hill Town 3 Haringey Borough 1

Haringey Borough suffered a second consecutive defeat on Saturday after losing 3-1 away to Burgess Hill Town in the Bostik Premier.

Tom Loizou’s team made the trip to the West Sussex club off the back of a defeat in the Velocity Trophy to Bowers & Pitsea.

Borough had made changes to their team for that fixture though, so were looking to bounce back in the league, but it didn’t happen.

The hosts took the lead close to the half an hour mark in front of big crowd on Non-League Day.

A ball into the area fell perfectly for Kieron Pamment and despite the tight angle, he curled past Valery Pajetet from close to the byline.

It was against the run of play, but delighted the majority of the 651 supporters inside the stadium.

No more goals occurred before half time, but the start of the second period saw two scored in quick succession.

First the visitors equalised when Joel Nouble flicked the ball in following a long throw in the 47th minute, but Haringey’s joy was short-lived.

A decent move from Burgess Hill saw Lukas Franzen-Jones receive the ball with time and space and he drilled in via the post from 25-yards to put the hosts back ahead with 49 on the clock.

Both teams knew the next goal was crucial and it did finally arrive in stoppage time and went to the home side.

Aaron Smith-Joseph showed great strength out wide and although his initial centre wasn’t put in, Pat Harding was on hand to fire home the rebound and wrap up the points for the visitors.

Following back-to-back defeats, Haringey are now 14th in the table and they are now without a midweek fixture due to their FA Cup involvement.

Borough were set to host Carshalton Athletic tonight (Monday), but the club have been allowed to postpone the league encounter to give them better preparation for their fourth qualifying round tie at home to Poole Town on Saturday.

The Coles Park outfit will announce a date for the rescheduled fixture in due course.
