Haringey Borough are just three points outside the play-off spots after two home wins extended their winning run to three matches in Ryman League Division One North.

Having previously beaten Ware on the road last Tuesday, Tom Loizou’s side thrashed Romford 7-1 at Coles Park on Saturday and then beat Thamesmead Town 3-2 in front of their own fans on Monday night.

Chris Benjamin and Adrian Markus both struck twice in the first half of the weekend’s clash, giving the hosts a 4-0 lead at the break, and they both completed their hat-tricks in the second period, while Nana Asamoah also got in on the act.

It was the third time this season that Borough had scored seven goals in a home game, and they struck another three on White Hart Lane two days later.

Borough started strongly again and were 2-0 up at the interval following goals from Ralston Gabriel and Markus, while their visitors were down to 10 men.

Gabriel then made it 3-0, but two minutes later Dewayne Clarke was shown his second yellow card and, in the end, Borough had to hang on after conceding twice, having turned a comfortable outing into a rather nervy affair.

Meanwhile, Haringey Borough Women cemented their place at the top of the table in the Eastern Region Women’s League Premier Division after thrashing Colchester Town 10-1 at Coles Park on Sunday.

Julia Carruthers and Jessica Appeagyei both hit hat-tricks while Anele Komani, Klesha Darroux, Roisin Cormack and Jaidene Browne netted once each.
