Bostik Premier: Haringey Borough 3 AFC Hornchurch 1

A brace from defender Mark Kirby and a late goal from substitute Anthony McDonald inspired Haringey Borough to their fourth consecutive league victory as they sealed a 3-1 score line against AFC Hornchurch.

Borough moved up to ninth in the Bostik Premier Division by picking up three points while Urchins remain 17th despite a late consolation goal from Sean Marksat Coles Park.

The hosts got themselves off to a dream start with a dominate opening few minutes and they were even rewarded as early as the third minute when defender Mark Kirby bundled the ball home from an incoming corner.

Urchins goalkeeper Callum Chafer denied Borough from doubling their lead as former Leyton Orient youngster Charley Barker fired a shot from inside the box after a rapid run down the left from Michael Ademiluyi.

They continued to pile the pressure on and this time it was midfielder Joel Nouble drove up the middle of the pitch and let fly but it was held by Chafer.

The visitors finally got a chance of their own as George Purcell’s corner fell to Theo Fairweather-Johnson in the box but his shot was saved by Valery Pajetat.

In the 10th minute Nouble raced up the pitch once again and latched onto a back heel from Barker but had another effort denied.

Ten minutes later George Saunders broke down the right against a run of play for the Urchins, looked to cross the ball in, but it was cleared by Kirby.

Shortly after controversy struck as Saunders used his pace once again, attacking Kirby one-on-one, with the host’s defender blocking his efforts to go round him with his hand.

Nothing was called as the Urchins bench shouted in uproar and the play was soon back against them as Ademiluyi cut into the box and fired a shot.

The pacey winger kept running at the visitors back line and produced some magic as he stepped over the ball and fired just wide of the post.

Haringey’s in-form man Coby Rowe then stepped up to take a free-kick in a glorious position in the 33rd minute.

The midfielder curled it over the wall but Chafer was equal to it as he grabbed hold of the ball.

Ademiluyi went then caught with a challenge and had to be carried off the pitch in discomfort.

Anthony McDonald came on to replace the attacker.

Hornchurch finally stepped up their efforts in the dying stages of the first-half and Fairweather-Johnson drilled a shot from range but his effort was blocked by Pajetat in stoppage time.

Nouble picked up where he left off in the first-half and danced his way into the box early in the second-half but failed to get a good shot off.

Substitute McDonald then turned on the ball inside the box and fired a shot, but it rocketed against the right post.

Tom Loizou’s side doubled their lead in the 65th minute with similar goal as Kirby nodded home a Michael O’Donoghue corner.

Substitute McDonald fired through Chafer’s legs after a pass across the box from Nouble in the 87th minute to make it 3-0 for the hosts but it wasn’t all over as substitute Sean Marks pulled one back for the Urchins just a minute later.
