Hampstead’s Max Benaim has become a Middlesex champion twice over after taking the 16-and-under singles title and also winning the doubles crown with Rohan Sikka at the County Closed Junior Championship.

Benaim, who lives in Clorane Gardens and attends University College School, had a national ranking of 893 in the 18-and-under category around the start of the year, but he has since shot up into 28th place.

The 15-year-old’s twin success at the County Closed Junior Championship this summer has been combined with a victory at the Radlett Open in the 18-and-under class and at the Ellesse Chandos Junior Open in both the Under-16s and Under-18s category.

A member of Cumberland Tennis Club in West Hampstead, he was also selected to represent Great Britain at the Maccabiah Games in Israel.

Benaim competed against opponents from Australia, Canada, Austria, Israel, France and Brazil but came home without a medal on that occasion, having been eliminated in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles by the same player – a 17-year-old member of the Israeli national team.
