Gold rush for Camden Swiss Cottage swimmers at Middlesex County Championships

Olivia Willis led a strong Camden Swiss Cottage team at the Middlesex County Championships.
Racing in a demanding programme against the best swimmers in the county, the 15-year-old won 13 medals, including six golds in the 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 200m Individual Medley.
Willis took silvers in the 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 100m IM and 400m IM – as she added a bronze in the 50m breaststroke.
Her performances were made even more impressive because she also broke a number of long-standing club record times.
The stand-out performer for the boys was James Slade, who showed strong versatility to take four golds in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 100m IM.
The 15-year-old also clinched silvers in the 100m backstroke and 200m IM, and two further bronzes in the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly.
There were 10 other gold medallists in the Camden team – nine-year-old Callum Carlisle, Anna Podurgiel, 10, Kelly Botero, 14, Alex Panteli, 14, Isobel Moffatt, 15, Tamir Gonen-Cohen, 16, Tudor Puszet, 16, Sarah Taylor-Reid, 17, Rosie Hughes, 18, and Sophie Rittenhouse, 18.
Clinching a number of silvers and bronzes each were Drew Dill, 10, Alexander Borisov, 11, Indigo Mathews, 13, Bryce Puszet, 14, and Aimee Nahal, 15.
Head coach Tim Hartley said: “We had some brilliant racing at this year’s County Championships, and Olivia and James were really impressive.
“What’s also been encouraging to see is the number of swimmers finishing in the top eight, and the vast numbers of the team recording personal best times. It’s made for a very successful championships for the club.”
