After FA Cup disappointment last weekend, Wingate bounced back on Tuesday night

Wingate & Finchley will host Merstham on Saturday in the Bostik Premier eager to make it back-to-back wins.

The Blues produced a strong display on Tuesday night to triumph 2-1 at Mildenhall Town in the first round of the Velocity Trophy.

Goals from Reece Beckles-Richards and Lewis Putman gave Wingate just a second win of the season.

The success occurred days after a frustrating 2-1 loss at home to Didcot Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Despite creating plenty of chances, Wingate were made to pay for their profligacy as the visitors struck once in each half to take control.

Sean Cronin did reduce the deficit in the 88th minute from the penalty spot, but it was too little, too late.

After bouncing back well on Tuesday, the Blues will aim to build on this at the weekend when Merstham visit in the Bostik Premier.

The Moatsiders are 12th in the table with eight points from six games while Wingate are 16th with five points.
