Wingate & Finchley have announced a new managerial duo of two former Premier League players in Nicky Shorey and Glen Little.

The Blues chairman Aron Sharpe has selected a team with International, Premiership and step three level experience when selecting Shorey and Little.

37-year-old former left-back Shorey joins the club with a wealth of experience after spending time at Aston Villa, Reading, Fulham and even coaching at Stevenage to name a few of his former clubs.

The former Leyton Orient academy graduate even made two England caps during his playing career and will now be keen to succeed in management.

“Never did I dream of the calibre, quality or number of candidates who would submit applications.

“It was a full-time job on its own. However, we managed to whittle it down to three outstanding young promising candidates and I could have given the job to any of them to be honest.

“However, the team of Nicky Shorey and Glenn Little covered every aspect that we would ever want and I can tell you that it is an extremely exciting appointment.”

Shorey also appeared for West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth and made more than 460 career appearances.

He played twice at Wembley for England during his career, and finished playing in the 2016-17 season at Hungerford Town in the National League South.

Little also turned out for Reading, but spent the largest part of his 580-match career at Burnley as a winger.

The 42-year-old was most recently a coach at Grays Athletic.
