TWO substitutes scored both goals, less than two minutes apart, in Tottenham's welcome 2-0 win over Portsmouth in Saturday's Premier League clash at the Lane, writes Simon Jackson.
Juande Ramos's bold 70th minute double substitution of Darren Bent for centre-back Michael Dawson and Jamie O'Hara for Aaron Lennon, quickly paid off when the pair netted in the last 10 minutes.
The match looked destined to remain goalless as Pompey continually rebuffed and frustrated Tottenham's efforts in front of goal.
In a first half controlled by Spurs, Dimitar Berbatov had a 29th minute goal disallowed for offside, and then four minutes later Dawson got a foot to Tom Huddlestone's corner but hit the crossbar.
Goalless at half time, sixth- placed Pompey stepped up the tempo in the second half and started to threaten before Ramos turned the game on its head with the inspired substitutions.
Within 10 minutes Bent staked his claim for a place in the starting line-up when he netted after a mishit from Berbatov had landed in his path.
The former Charlton striker then underlined his claims when he made the second goal with a sublime cross to O'Hara, who banged in his first league goal for Tottenham.
SPURS PLAYER OF THE GAME: Darren Bent. Scored a goal and made the other.
